How did America become so great? The US is the birthplace of innovation. Capitalism has allowed us to fine-tune our production by creating an environment in which the producers with the best quality and lowest priced goods will rise to the top. It makes use of the balance between supply and demand. Therefore, the system encourages modernization and has allowed the US to rise to their successful position in the world economy. In addition, Capitalism has allowed for the growth of a strong middle class and has not only been successful in the US, but also in other countries around the world such as Singapore. In the past, Capitalism had been a huge success in America but today, we are living to see the major devastation resulting from our capitalistic system. These effects can be seen in the rise in negative environmental effects and the lack of support to struggling individuals.
Although capitalism may be the best system for growth there are many failings especially as we look to the future of our country. If we want to make America great again we must reject capitalism in favor of a more cooperative socialist society; if we want drastic change, we must make drastic changes. Capitalism is destroying America. The introduction of new technologies has made producers greedy for money and indifferent to other issues. We need the government to get involved and control these profit hungry producers. The biggest failing of capitalism can be seen today, as owners of firms favor low wages because their goal is to maximize their profits. In the modern era, capitalism merely wastes resources with the chief goal of maximizing profits. Examples of exploitations of natural resources are shark fins are extremely valuable and sellers chop off the fins and then throw the dead sharks back into the ocean because they don't want to pay to store them. No one cares about the shark, all they care about are its fins. Furthermore, Loggers have taken out whole forests because it was far cheaper than just cutting down the trees. Should we maximize profit at the expense of our precious environment? If the government does not intervene, producers will continue to neglect their responsibilities and destroy our planet for generations to come. Our children may never enjoy the purple mountain majesties and the shining seas. In the near future, America may no longer be "America, the Beautiful." You, as citizens of America, must stand up for your beautiful country.
Capitalism has caused our lower classes to burgeon. Some people live lives of luxury while others slave to make a penny. What a terrible injustice! The government needs to get involved by protecting the rights of the people and eliminating corruption. In the current system, the poor are left behind with few opportunities to rise to prominence. The government can help to create opportunities for the poor to thrive and contribute to society.
The solution to all of America's troubles lies in socialism. The people of America want change. They want to have paid sick leave and programs for pre-kindergarten children and socialism will help us to achieve these necessities. Together we can cooperate to make our country the best it can be instead of fighting among each other like petty children. We must value people over property and the government will aid us in protecting our workers, environment, and minority groups. The government will bring stability to our economy. Moreover, we will maintain our freedoms and competition that allowed America to thrive from the beginning but will ensure its stability and fairness for all.
Socialism has been successful on a small scale and we can apply similar principles to the US at a larger scale. Robert Owen, a successful cotton mill factory owner, attests to the success of capitalism. Owen believed that if you treated your employees well, they would work harder and in turn, your profit would far exceed the extra expenses to your employees. He provided sick days for his employees and even cared about how they worked and lived. Owen agreed that competition is important but argued that it could not work if all the people did not have a chance to compete. We need the government to level the playing field so that everyone is involved and we can maximize our potential a country in our quickly changing world. Socialism has also proved to be successful on a larger scale, one example of such a society is Sweden. Sweden is currently a socialist state and is highly successful. Although Swedish citizens pay high taxes, they reap many benefits such as free, superior: healthcare, education and other services. The citizens of Sweden live simple lives which are similar to the lives of American citizens. However, they are not so concerned about material desires such as big houses and fancy cars and as a result, the people are able to focus on their work and contributing to society. In Sweden, all are cared for and no one is left behind. Is this not what our country should stand for as well? In addition, Charles Fourier, a socialist theorist, advocated for cooperative associations of producers. He coined the term Phalanxes to these associations because they worked closely together similar to the way the phalanx bones of the fingers and toes work together. He argued that this system would evenly distribute wealth and make society more fair for all. The producers would be motivated to work diligently by having a rewards system to award their hard work. He highlighted the needs of humans and the wastefulness of capitalism. Fourier compared his theories to Newton’s discoveries of the physical universe. Just as a natural order in the universe is a result of the combined forces, the natural order of human society must come from the combined efforts of the people.
Those who oppose the implementation of capitalism in the US often argue that the productivity will significantly plummet under a socialistic system. However, Louis Blanc, a man who believed that capitalism in France eliminated man’s potential, refuted these preposterous claims. He countered Henri Saint-Simon’s belief that under socialism, workers would not be rewarded for their hard work. Blanc believed that socialism necessitated that workers would be paid. He once said that, “when each one in accordance with the law written in some shape in his organization by God Himself, produces according to his faculties and consumes according to his wants.” His vision of capitalism is well suited for implementation in the US and will ensure that productivity will increase inconceivably. Socialism is inevitable so let’s make America the best it can be and implement socialism today!
